The handheld controller steps through nine heat levels from a barely-there 30 °C up to 50 °C at the skin, and a four-stage timer shuts the pad off after 30, 60, 90 or 120 minutes so it can be used in bed without staying on all night. Both faces are double-sided velvet, the fabric is fire resistant, and the whole thing folds down small enough to keep in a drawer. When it needs cleaning the pad washes by hand or machine.
